Why We Built It

Injuries happen. But what if we told you we could help you prevent them? MTNPT 2.0 was built with the backcountry athlete and military member in mind. The program provides preventative strength and mobility exercises customized for the MTNTOUGH community to keep you functioning at the highest level possible for as long as possible. Don’t let wrist pain keep you from bowhunting this fall or plantar fasciitis stop you from running that ultramarathon. MTNPT 2.0 is your solution to all long-term and short-term pain.

Think of it as smart training for the long haul. 

Through a collaboration with Dr. Tom Walters, a board certified orthopedic physical therapist and strength and conditioning specialist, MTNPT 2.0 provides prehab/rehab workouts that can be incorporated into your daily training regime. These exercises will help you recover faster and decrease your likelihood of injury so you can keep crushing the mountains no matter what. 

You don’t need a ton of gear or a ton of extra time. MTNPT 2.0 tackles issues most mountain athletes will run into at some point. Choose from exercises that target shoulders, elbows, hips, legs, ankles, your spine and more. Coached by Dr. Walters, each movement is demonstrated by MTNTOUGH trainers so you can perform the same motions anywhere, anytime through the MTNTOUGH app. Use this program as part of your regular workout.

Meet the Coach
Dr. Tom Walters

Tom is a board-certified orthopedic physical therapist and strength and conditioning specialist certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In addition to his clinical practice, he runs one of the world’s largest social media accounts dedicated to physical rehab (@rehabscience on Instagram). From 2012 to 2019, he served as a full-time kinesiology professor at Westmont College and taught courses including: biomechanics, therapeutic exercise and pain science. Tom has a bachelor of science (B.S.) in exercise science at Montana State University and then earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) degree at Chapman University in Southern California. Afterwards, as well he completed a residency in orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) and a fellowship in lower quarter functional biomechanics.

"My new book is a culmination of my 17 years of experience as a physical therapist treating patients with orthopedic injuries and pain issues. My goal in writing the book was to simplify the science of rehabilitation and to provide stepwise strategies for dealing with the most common musculoskeletal conditions. Inside the book, you’ll find comprehensive programs for the 50 most common problems that guide you through three phases of rehab and includes pictures of me doing the exercises. You’re essentially getting a resource that covers the entire body and provides you with programs similar to what a physical therapist would give you if you went to physical therapy."
